Papa: What was your favorite part of working on the Backwater Bunch Project?

Tatyana: The whole project was really fun. I had a chance to build the infrastructure of the project which made sure everything worked. It was all really fun.

Papa: Come on you have to pick one area.

Tatyana: The backend development site was fun, but if I had to pick one area it would be the public web site. This is the area we got to present our work to the world.

Papa: Can you tell me what some of your responsibilities were on this project?

Tatyana: I was responsible for building the development web site and backend infrastructure for the project. To make sure all of the work the artists were doing was not redundant and fit into our pipeline, I developed a forum style web site for all of the animators and production supervisors to communicate through. Other areas of the site included dailies and MEL script repositories. We also had a weblog set up so each animator or modeler had an area where they could save private notes. This was essential when a large number of team members had to work on the same shot. Deadlines were really tough for this project, so communication was the key. I was also responsible for leading the team that built the public web site.

Papa: What did you do prior to working at Digital-Tutors?

Tatyana: I was the webmaster at my previous employer, where we had a site with 7,000 plus web pages all controlled thought a network of sub components. This was a very efficient site and received thousands of hits per day. I am now full time with Digital-Tutors and loving every minute of it!

Papa: Which character did you like the best?

Tatyana: I really like Tabby and Chomper. Can I have two?

Papa: What did you think about the pipeline?

Tatyana: I enjoyed working with the teams of animators and modelers. The main reason the pipeline worked was because the teams really worked hard to fit their skills into our pipe. I haven’t met such a dedicated group of people in my life. You (papa) really came up with a great pipeline and I had fun integrating the development site into each port of it. There were a number of challenges getting everything to work before production started but it all came together once the modelers started posting work.

Papa: Why Tabby?

Tatyana: I got to do her makeup <laugh>

Papa: Her makeup?

Tatyana: The texture team didn’t have any girls, and they had no clue how to do Tabby’s makeup. Even though I have no clue about texturing, I had a blast helping create her textures. After a while Tabby became a real person and her makeup can set her mood.

Papa: How did you get into IT?

Tatyana: I got my degrees in E-Commerce and Computer Science, which gave me the background knowledge and skills needed to build large commerce based sites. I then got involved with Digital-Tutors and MMDC which opened the doors to different applications and focused my skills on building large community supported sites.

Papa: What are your future goals for Digital-Tutors?

Tatyana: I really would like to see the company expand its product base and offer more training in various applications. I would also like to rollout more new features for our members including monthly contests and give-aways. <Can I mention the magazine?>

Papa: OK, I guess you just mentioned the magazine.  Tell our readers what that is all about.

Tatyana: Oh, I thought it was ok to talk about the magazine. OK, I’ll let the cat out of the bag. Digital-Tutors is planning on releasing a new Electronic Magazine with featured tutorials, interviews, product reviews, and did I mention featured tutorials. Plus tons of stuff our little mascot Rosco digs up. Can I mention the price?

Papa: Go for it.

Tatyana: This is the best part. The price of the magazine is only going to be around $6-$7 with FREE shipping. That way more people can be introduced to our style of training and learn more about different applications.

Papa: OK, Tatyana, enough of the sneak peek. <thanks>

Tatyana: Alright… It is just hard to keep secrets. Can I share something about the Backwater Bunch Training Kit?

Papa: No. We have to get back to the interview.

Tatyana: <laugh> <sigh>

Papa: Is there anything else you would like to share?

Tatyana: OK, I guess I would like to share the news on the Backwater Bunch Training Kit. <You asked!> This will be a kit that is a start to finish full production and will not miss any steps. Ok I had to get that out. <laugh> If you are in San Diego during Siggraph this year, please stop by our booth (#2115) and say hi. We have lots of give-aways for the week.
