| Papa: What was
your favorite part of working on the Backwater Bunch Project?
Dustin: Being able to go further with my texture skills and
at the same time producing work that was ready for approval in
such a short deadline. You really have to have a strong sense of
visual appeal to be a texture artist and I had some really great
supervisors to nudge me along :) I really loved texturing and
the whole creative process. Unlike other projects in the past I
had an Art Director and VFX Supervisor who really wanted to get
the 3D images as close to the actual images as possible.

Papa: What did you do prior to working at Digital-Tutors?
Dustin: Before getting started with 3D I was a
traditional painter and I painted a number custom murals for
clubs, restaurants and even a school. I am so amazed at how much
my traditional art background comes into play when I create
textures.
Papa: So you enjoy painting. What else do you do in your free
time?
Dustin: I like to work on cars (stretches my thinking
skills) and just hanging out with friends. I am a huge fan of
live music and love the way musicians create their art.
Papa: For you, it really is about art isn’t it?
Dustin: That is so true. My main goal is to one day
create art that others are inspired and draw creativity from, I
just hope some day to meet a kid and hear, " Your work is so
cool, I used that idea in a project of my own".
Papa: I think you are on your way. Your work on this project
was first class and very inspiring.
Dustin: Um. Wow thank you. I have
learnt so much on this
project and I have increased my abilities and isn’t that what it
is all about?

Papa: Can you
tell me what some of your responsibilities were on this project?
Dustin: My main responsibilities as a Lead Texture Artist
were the texturing of the characters including color, bump and
spec maps. I also created the textures for many of the props,
organic objects and set pieces. I am also the lead lighting
artist and the two really go well together. I had a number of
artists working under me and supervising and double checking
were also part of my responsibilities.
Papa: It really is, what did you find hardest about this
project?
Dustin: That is a tough one… Being able to create the
looks the art director wanted in such a short period of time. I
worked close to 98 hours per week texturing and still feel like
I could spend a few more weeks tweaking.
Papa: Which character did you like the best?
Dustin: Probably Tabby, just the overall feel of her. She
is cute and sweet looking and very lovable. I think people will
be able to relate to her.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
Dustin: Having the opportunity to work side by side with
Kyle was unreal. He was very patient when I ran into a problem.
He took time out of his work schedule to help me and that means
a lot. I have a lot of respect for him as an artist and
supervisor.
